Last week, we began receiving multiple reports of a stray dog running through roads and fields in our local area. For 48 hours, our staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to keep him safe from traffic along the incredibly fast and dangerous Fosse Way, using our cars to shield him, right near the entrance to our kennels.
The local community was simply incredible — sightings came in immediately, and so many people were watching out for him. But this boy was lightning fast. He would vanish from one spot and, within minutes, reappear a mile away. It was clear he was frightened, exhausted, and in survival mode.
With the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and the wonderful team at CEASaR CiC- Central England Animal Search & Rescue- Leics, Warks, Worcs we finally managed to trap him safely less than half a mile from our kennels.
He was exhausted. Skinny. His pads were painfully sore. And then… he slept. For three whole days.
Zephyr — or Zeff, as he’s now known — is a very nervous young boy, understandably so. Like so many dogs abandoned in our area over the past two years, he has been left to fend for himself. But he is safe now. And he is beginning, slowly and bravely, to trust. Everything will happen in his own time, just as it should.
Please join us in giving a very gentle hello to Zephyr.
And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you to our incredible local community for helping bring him to safety ❤️
