About Me

Helena is a typical high-energy working dog who would benefit from regularly doing an activity such as scentwork or canicross. She loves running around and playing with toys, and also enjoys chasing after treats. Helena can be a little anxious and likes to have human contact for reassurance – she often gives the biggest bear hugs! Although still a medium to large-sized dog, Helena is on the smaller size for her breed.

Home Requirements

Helena is currently in foster, where her foster family are helping her adjust to life in a home. She has a good ‘sit’ and is learning to be patient, although it doesn’t come naturally to her! As German Shorthaired Pointers are a working gundog, Helena is very interested in wildlife, and enjoys ‘pointing’ birds in the garden. She will likely need some work on her lead walking and recall, but she’s still a young girl so this should improve over time with training. She could possibly live with a well-matched canine companion.

Although Helena is great at home and in the garden, her fosterers report that she struggles with the big wide world, which she finds exciting and scary at the same time! She is able to enjoy a walk if it starts off quietly and calmly, but she is reactive to other dogs and can struggle to calm down again after seeing one. However, they are confident that with consistency and kindness, she will soon learn to defer to her owners for decisions rather than worrying herself silly!

Although you will have to invest a little time in Helena’s training to begin with, she is a really sweet girl with loads of potential to make a wonderful pet for an active home.
